10 Best New TV Shows Of 2016 Ranked

TV keeps upping its game.

Stranger Things
Netflix

Sure, the new season of Game of Thrones rocked our world, The Americans are still going strong, and I personally loved the new season of BoJack Horseman. The Walking Dead's new season has started in an epic way. Other existing series are constantly developing, and many are growing stronger and most entertaining season by season.

But what about new series? Many amazing shows have ended in the last few years. I'm still getting over the end of Breaking Bad and Dexter, so what's new? Viewers need fresh, exciting projects that they can sink into and be excited about for years to come. After all, even the best series out today won't last forever.

Thankfully 2016 has given us a lot to be hopeful about. Famous film stars and directors are moving into the TV industry and HBO, AMC and other major networks are continuously releasing unique, exciting projects that may just be the next big hit.

The year isn't over yet, but so far quite a few new series have really shone and given viewers hope for the future of TV.

10. Horace & Pete

Stranger Things
Louie C.K.

Stand-up comedian and creator of the acclaimed sitcom "Louie", Louie C.K., has brought us a drama-comedy series starring himself and Steve Buscemi. The show is set in an old New York bar and revolves around the family that owns it, mainly the two brothers (C.K. and Buscemi) who run it, the sister (Edie Falco) who is trying to take control of the bar, and finally Uncle Pete (Alan Alda) who ran the bar before his nephews took over.

The premise is simple yet the unique, colourful family members and regular customers make each episode funny, realistic and, often, dark and sad. The show presents real life struggles and explores topics of mental health, politics, economy, and love in a most bold and raw way.

Unfortunately, the show has been cancelled after the first season because Louie C.K. funded the project himself and was unable to continue, as the system of paying for each episode on Louie C.K.'s website did not work as well as planned.

Nonetheless, the first and last season is worth a watch. It's a dark, comical journey into the issues surrounding a family at-odds in current day New York.

I like to think of myself as a world traveler and social butterfly, although I do spend a lot of my time watching the latest Japanese anime series, sitcoms, movies, and drama series. I live on the island of Crete, where I was born, and enjoy walking on the beach with my little cocker spaniel, Molly, when I'm not writing for WhatCulture.com and UNILAD.co.uk.
