10 Best Only Fools And Horses Episodes

6. The Frog's Legacy

Only Fools
BBC

Following the disappointment of The Royal Flush special, The Frog's Legacy was set to be Only Fools' last hurrah. Little did John Sullivan know that this episode would singlehandedly save the series.

With money being at a new low, Del finds hope in the form of the legend of £1 million in gold that has been inherited to him via a relationship between his mother and a bank robber named Freddie "The Frog" Robdal. Derek forces his family to help him find it while Rodney struggles with his new job.

This episode had very major repercussions for the show as a whole, as Freddie turned out to be related to one of the main characters as revealed in the final episode. Outside this though, it was one of the more well written and hilarious episodes of the series. A particular highlight goes to Rodney's job going from trainee computer programmer to chief mourner with a funeral firm.

On top of this, Uncle Albert's relationship to Freddie during the war and the reveal of what happened to the gold is one of the best twists written into the show. After this episode, the show moved to more of a balance between Del's exploits and the Trotter's personal life, creating new characters and more depth, and we have Freddie the Frog to thank for that.
