5. Time On Our Hands
It's what we heard since the beginning: "this time next year, we'll be millionaires". Well, this is the episode where it finally happens.
The third part of the final Christmas special trilogy, this episode perfectly blends emotion and comedy, rounding off the series on not only a high note, but something of a bitter-sweet ending. Following on from the events of Modern Men, Rodney has become apethetic following the Cassandra's miscarriage, and Del tries his best to get him to open up, resulting in one of the most heartbreaking moments in British television in Rodney's breakdown.
The episode then moves to Raquel's parents visiting, and following a hilarious dinner debacle, the brothers discover a watch in their garage which Raquel's father believes to be extremely valuable. An auction and two blackouts later, Del and Rodney sell the watch for £6.2 million, realising their dream and taking full advantage.
The episode perfectly juggles the joy of achieving their goals, but also lamenting that their old life is over and missing the fun of the chase. It ended their story on an ideal note, but left the door open for future episodes, resulting a final trilogy in the early 2000s.
