10 Best Only Fools And Horses Episodes

3. A Touch Of Glass

The first couple of series of Only Fools didn't leave much of an impact and was ready for the BBC chopping block if things didn't improve. This was the turning point when people took notice and said "this is a great show".

The Trotters find luck in the form of a stranded aristocrat, who they help out of a situation. They then elbow themselves into her stately home and manage to con themselves into getting a job cleaning the chandeliers. Out of their depth naturally something goes disastrously wrong. The audience knew what was going to happen but the build-up was masterful and when it finally happened, the roar of laughter was deafening as that priceless glasswork crashed to the ground, much to the horror of Del and Rodney.

The writing is excellent and the clashes between their two classes give some great laughs. What makes the episode even better is that it was based on real events. John Sullivan's father was a plumber during the 1930s and during a job had to remove some ornate light fixtures. As with the episode, a mix-up occurred and the wrong chandelier was undone. Fact is stranger than fiction indeed. Certainly funnier!
