When it comes to characters in a TV show, there are usually clear archetypes: the hero; the comic relief; the brains; the glue holding everyone together. And whilst Angel is no exception to this idea, it would be unfair to say that Lorne didn't fit all of these roles and more during his four season run on the show.

Played by the late, great Andy Hallett, Lorne was a sassy, funny, intelligent, classy and completely relatable character. A demon who could read peoples' auras and futures when they sang to him, Lorne acts at various points as a reluctant ally, a loyal friend, and a source of balance to the melodrama surrounding the other characters.

Oh, and he can sing, like, really well.

Though he has plenty of moments to be a shining light in the dark and dreary world of Angel and his clique, Lorne is also one of the show's most tragic characters; a loving, generous, selfless demon who is sucked into the titular vampire's world and eventually forced to go against every aspect of his character when he kills rocky foe-turned-ally Lindsey.

His final words - "Goodnight, folks" - makes for one of the last episode's most devastating moments, and thanks to Hallett's delivery and screen presence you can't help be realise that Lorne deserved much more than what he got.
