10 Best Performances In Buffy The Vampire Slayer

3. Anthony Stewart Head - Rupert Giles

Drusilla Buffy
Mutant Enemy

Rupert Giles is the father figure of the show. Starting off as the prim and proper, by the book Watcher and librarian at Sunnydale High School, he is at first a bit weird and peculiar, and more of a plot point to give the gang and the audience some much needed exposition.

But this didn't last long. Thanks to the natural talent of Anthony Stewart Head, Giles quickly grows into a strong and confident leader, moral and measured man, and the grown up glue holding the Scooby Gang together. He could be at once pompous and sweet, scary and funny, and his delivery - whether he is being serious, cracking a rare joke or putting his foot down - is always perfectly suited to the situation.

Becoming more stern and strong as the show reached its end, his best performances can be seen in "Passion", "Grave" and "Helpless" (amongst others). He's also proved to be a fantastic singer as well as dramatic actor, and with all these traits working in his favour, Head makes the top end of the pile.
