10 Best Performances In Game Of Thrones

9. Gwendoline Christie - Brienne Of Tarth

Jorah Dany Game Of Thrones
HBO

Her first major role on television, Brienne of Tarth has since become synonymous with Gwendoline Christie and the two are now inseparable. The 6'3" actress towers over most other cast members of the show and her fearsome persona makes her a formidable presence. It truly feels like no one could play this role other than her.

A woman who has dreams of being a knight, Christie does a great job of brushing off insults but also clearly harbouring some hurt feelings as she goes through the show. Her chemistry with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is incredible and their growing relationship and sharp dynamic is a highlight across the seasons.

While other female warriors on the show such as the Sand Snakes and, in particular, Arya Stark feel more flashy in their combat. Brienne's physicality is intense and brutal and requires a more vicious streak. Christie rises to this challenge and that is no more clearer than in her one on one fight with The Hound. A swordfight that turns into a savage brawl, it is the best dual across all eight seasons and Christie nails it.
