"The Machine is dying, Ms Groves." Season Four culminated in a desperate scramble to save the Machine, in which the stricken ASI was forced to unleash her true strength. The Machine's displays of power were thrilling and awe-inspiring, particularly when God Mode Reese proved to be worth an entire Samaritan army.
Control's storyline was equally gripping, as she raced to prevent the Correction and made her play against Greer. The unveiling of the Correction’s true nature was a brilliant twist, as Samaritan was revealed to have been manipulating Control all along, and brought the final confrontation between Elias and Dominic to an abrupt and bloody end as it moved against its targets.
But the episode's greatest moment was undoubtedly Finch's conversation with his creation at its climax, which was perfectly accompanied by Pink Floyd’s Welcome to the Machine. Finch was finally forced to confront his status and feelings as a parent, as the Machine apologised for her mistakes and thanked him for creating her in what could have been her final moments. With Finch, Root and Reese deprived of the Machine and surrounded by foes, the episode concluded on a thrilling, poignant note, as Finch carried his child towards an uncertain future.
