Season two's First Time in New York introduces us to Robin's sister Katie. She comes to New York to visit Robin, along with her obnoxious boyfriend Kyle, to whom she plans to lose her virginity.

Robin, Ted, and the rest of the gang take Katie to the Empire State Building, while not-so-subtly preaching the importance of waiting to have sex.

Meanwhile, Robin struggles with her own feelings towards Ted. She knows she loves him, but she's never said that to a man before, so she has trouble articulating it. The two plot lines come together when Katie, still wanting to lose her virginity to Kyle, asks Robin if she has had feelings for every guy she's been with, following it up with "Do you love Ted?"

Ted gives Robin an out for saying it, but later successfully convinces Katie to wait on sex by telling her a twisted version of his own first time. After hearing the story, Robin finally tells Ted, "I love you."

This episode shows two sides of Robin we don't often see. She's never the type to wrestle with romantic feelings and expressing herself, nor does she often care for someone the way she does with Katie. Plus, Barney's first time story, which was NOT taken directly from Dirty Dancing, was hilarious.
