8. Cylons - Battlestar Galactica

A consistent presence throughout all iterations of Battlestar Galactica, the Cylons are a race of hostile robots at war with the twelve colonies of humanity. Their origins have varied across continuity, with the original version being created by reptilian overlords who have long gone extinct.

Their advanced artificial intelligence allowed them to form their own heavily militaristic society, one which views humanity as a threat to their power and control. Another version depicted them as a rogue faction of human tools that rebelled against their masters.

As one of the most dangerous threats to the remnants of humanity, the Cylons boast a formidable military presence, broken down into various ranks. They are led by the Imperious Leader, the most advanced model, followed by IL-Series, Centurions and finally the basic civilian and humanoid robots. Their space fleet is equally strong, with an array of capital ships and fighters used to decimate their enemies.

This faction has also crossed over into novels and have been referenced many times in popular media including novels and comics. In more recent productions, fans have decried the increased use of CGI to portray the Cylon factions, but their presence remains one of the more memorable aspects of Battlestar Galactica.
