6. Billy Hargrove - Stranger Things
The dangers in Stranger Things typically come from interdimensional, alien sources, but often these threats are brought about by human intervention. In the show's ensemble cast, a few faces spring to mind from the sinister Dr Martin Brenner to the various Russians spying on the characters.
Many of the antagonists rely on more covert deceit and trickery, but there's one foe who takes the cake and that's Dacre Montgomery's Billy Hargrove. Billy made his series debut in its second season as the abusive older stepbrother of Max.
Constantly belittling and taunting her throughout, he's smug, cocky and spiteful, making for a character you love to hate from the get-go. Once he ends up getting possessed by the Mind-Flayer that stalks the town of Hawkins, he turns into a already unlikeable villain into an even deadlier one for Season 3.
Much like the 80s tropes Stranger Things represents, Billy Hargrove fits into the same archetype. He ranks above the Demogorgon for being an awful human being outside of the Upside Down. Yet as many fans of the series saw in its latter half, his violent past and the subsequent redemption that unfolds flipped the script in the season's final moments.
