This series may sound like an attempt at generating a Black Mirror episode, however, it delivers on an entirely interesting premise that questions the state of spirituality and technology, whilst still being a thoroughly amusing and heartfelt comedy.
The show - created by Greg Daniels of The Office and Parks and Recreation fame - spins the narrative of a man who dies an untimely death and is allowed to upload his consciousness into a virtual world. After this transition is made, he adjusts to this new realm of existence, befriends his angel and soon becomes suspicious about the circumstances behind his death.
The concept is a little unoriginal, as other shows have tackled embodiments of the afterlife in this way before, such as the previously mentioned Black Mirror. In many ways, the focus on comedy even makes the title feel like a digitalised version of The Good Place.
But putting that aside and thoroughly enjoying the project for what it is will allow viewers to have a fun and harmless experience, which has a thing or two to say about dependency on technology and commercialisation, without being too heavy-handed.
