10 Best Simpsons Characters Who Debuted After The Golden Age

4. Shauna Chalmers

The Simpsons Shauna Yes Guy
20th Century Fox

Shauna is one of the most recent characters added to the show, first appearing in Season 20. They took a couple of episodes to get her right, but once they did she slotted into the cast well.

She changes the bully dynamic slightly too, adding a girl into the mix. This helped the show modernise not just from a pandering or diversity point of view, but in terms of the lines they could write. For all of the amazing jokes the Simpsons had, they never really had anyone sassy or sarcastic in the way Shauna is. There’s Comic Book Guy, but as shown in their flame war, Shauna can give as good as she gets.

Having her date/flirt with Bart in her early appearances was strange, considering she seemed to be aged up. But then, Kearney is a grown man and Nelson is in Bart’s grade, and they often seem the same age. Still, once they made her a decidedly older girl she can bring new humour to situations that would usually call for the Squeaky Voiced Teen.

Being Chalmers’ daughter has just been a throwaway gag so far, but perhaps they’ll develop this storyline further in the new episodes.
