10 Best Slasher Horror TV Shows
1. Slasher
You won’t find a small screen production more dedicated to honouring the genre it’s named after than network-hopping anthology Slasher. Having originated on defunct horror network Chiller and then made itself a halfway house at Netflix, Slasher has now found a permanent home at horror streamer Shudder, much to horror fans’ delight.
Though sorely underrated compared to the likes of this list’s prior entry, Slasher continually finds ways to innovate within its core premise of introducing a new masked serial killer each season. Featuring an accomplished rotating cast that, in its fourth outing, includes the David Cronenberg himself, the show blends classic slasher tropes with that of other subgenres such as folk and survival horror to craft tales that stand out in their individualism. Upcoming fifth season, subtitled Ripper, intends to add historical and detective fiction to its list, with a Robin Hood-esque 19th century killer dispensing justice to the wealthy while hunted by the police.
In truth, Slasher isn’t treading any ground that the genre hasn’t walked before. However, it is adapting the most beloved tropes of its titular genre for television with a sustained focus and quality that no other series has yet managed. For this reason, it should be at the top of the biggest slasher fans’ watch lists, because the people behind this show clearly love classic horror just as much as we do.
