10 Best Star Trek Episodes That Revisited Other Episodes

5. Through The Valley Of Shadows And The Menagerie

As mentioned earlier, The Menagerie was basically just a glorified retelling of The Cage, but it was also the first time we learned of Pike's injury that left him completely paralysed and able only to blink once for 'yes' and twice for 'no'. This tragic fate was made even more unsettling by the Discovery episode Through The Valley Of Shadows, which showed us that Pike was actually aware that he was awaiting this future.

While Discovery was investigating the red bursts, one appeared over the Klingon planet, Boreth, home to the mysterious time crystals. The crew theorised that they could use a time crystal to send the Sphere Data into the future to prevent Control from possessing it and destroying all biological life in the galaxy.

When Pike was finally allowed to take a time crystal, he experienced a vision of his future. He witnessed the radiation leak burning his body and was horrified to see himself, horribly disfigured, in his robotic wheelchair from The Menagerie.

Pike chose to keep this knowledge to himself (for the most part), but often had flashbacks and spent lots of his time terrified of his destiny. This revelation of Pike's made his character so much more tragic and interesting.
