10 Best Star Trek Episodes That Revisited Other Episodes
6. If Memory Serves And The Cage
Captain Pike and others from the cast of Strange New Worlds were introduced in the first Original Series pilot episode, The Cage, which failed to get picked up by the studio. Eventually, it was reimagined slightly with Kirk and his crew (aside from Spock, who served under both captains). In an effort to save time and money during the first season, Gene Roddenberry came up with the idea to reuse the discarded first pilot in a 'clip show' format, and thus, The Menagerie was created.
Even though this episode was born out of laziness, it was still cool for revisiting some of the existential questions about the Talosians from The Cage. However, Discovery gave us a much better continuation of their story.
Discovery's first and second seasons were set after The Cage, but before Kirk's time as Captain of the Enterprise, which meant that, during Discovery, entering the Talosian system was punishable by death. In the episode If Memory Serves, Burnham and Spock illegally visited Talos IV to heal Spock's mind and prove that he was not a murderer. We got to see a new-and-improved look for the Talosians, and the return of Vina, Pike's love interest from The Cage who was kept alive by the Talosians' powers of illusion.
