9. Dr. Phlox's Pyrithian Bat
The very first Enterprise was a relatively small ship with an extremely diversified crew, including the chief medical officer Dr. Phlox. Dr. Phlox is a Denobulan that Captain Archer picked out of the surgery room at random to join his crew, but quickly became a vital part of the crew and a fan-favorite character.
Dr. Phlox has a deep fondness for animals, usually because he is interested in the ways they can be used for medical purposes, and as such brought dozens of strange alien pets aboard the first Enterprise's historic voyage across the galaxy. One of the most notable of Dr. Phlox's assortment of pets was his female Pyrithian Bat, who was used for medical as well as emotional support for the good doctor.
We only see the bat a few times in the series, and for the most part, it's just a normal bat. However, a bat is still a really cool pet to have. Especially one that can be used to distract enemies and be someone to talk to for comfort in the cruel deep voids of space.
