10 Best Star Trek: Voyager Episodes Not About The Main Cast
5. Concerning Flight
An entire episode of John Rhys-Davies running around, playing Leonardo Da Vinci on an alien world that he believes is America? Sold.
This episode is fantastic fun, which is a breath of fresh air from some fairly heavy preceding episodes, like Year of Hell. Rhys-Davies is clearly having a ball as the Italian maestro, unexpectedly whisked away from Voyager by raiders who manage to steal both the Doctor's mobile emitter and the Da Vinci program itself. While there are a couple of logic gaps along the way, such as why exactly Da Vinci's patron chooses to activate him at all, yet that pales in the face of the action romp that Da Vinci and Janeway go on together.
Though Janeway is somewhat hampered by Da Vinci's inability to understand what exactly is happening around them, his creative genius saves the day. He finally manages to build his flying machine, in record time too, thanks to the lightweight material that was available to him on the planet. They escape and he returns to the holodeck, not quite aware of what has happened, but inspired like never before. It is an episode of true fun, start to finish.
