10 Best Tales From The Crypt Episodes
4. Television Terror [Season 2, Episode 16]
Controversial talk show host Morton Downey Jr gamely sends himself up here as Horton Rivers, a shock journalist broadcasting a live tour of an allegedly haunted house. This being Tales From The Crypt, Horton soon finds out that it's not always good to get what you want, as the appearance of some homicidal spooks not only boosts his ratings, but also endangers his life.
Along the way we learn that the house's last resident, Ada Ritter, had used the premises to murder twelve men by variously nasty means and while Horton explores the house he describes these incidents between off-air arguments with his production crew outside. The further Horton and his cameraman venture into the house the more aggressive the ghosts become in what is genuinely the creepiest entry of the entire series.
Ahead of its time in more ways than one, this episode employed techniques later popularised in the found footage genre and satirised reality TV way ahead of its boom. It's no wonder it currently stands as one of the highest rated episodes on IMDB.
