10 Best Treehouse Of Horror Episodes

1. Treehouse of Horror V

The Simpsons Treehouse Of Horror
20th Century Fox

It is no mystery why Treehouse of Horror V is so widely regarded as the best Halloween episode, or even one of the best episodes of the entire show.

Opening with the all time classic parody of The Shining, here called The Shinning (so as to not be sued), the episode starts on a high note. Here Homer is hired by Mr. Burns to serve as caretaker in his lodge while it closes for winter. The family settle in while Burns and Smithers cut the TV cable and take the beer supply with them. Upon realising that there is no TV or beer, Homer begins to unravel and spiral into a murderous rampage. No TV and no beer make Homer go crazy!

The middle segment, Time and Punishment, takes the episode in a science fiction direction when Homer accidentally converts the toaster into a time machine. After visiting prehistoric times and activating a butterfly effect, Homer returns to the future to witness the world not as he remembers it. From a dystopia ruled by Ned Flanders to a world where Maggie is a talking axe murderer, Homer can never seem to return to his own world.

Finally, in Nightmare Cafeteria, Principal Skinner makes the startling realisation that, when cooked and marinated correctly, the best meal he has ever had comes in the form of his students. Gradually, as the episode progresses many children are killed and served up for school lunch the next day. An excellent story that results in the death of both Bart and Lisa which nicely rounds off the best Treehouse of Horror episode.

When not spending time writing bios about himself, Thomas enjoys pretending that the stories he's spent years writing are famous TV shows, achieving the same cult status as Twin Peaks or Lloyd in Space.
