Taking place in the third season, this episode is the only Treehouse of Horror without official titles for each segment. It instead follows the theme of each story being either Bart, Lisa, or Homer's nightmare.

In Lisa's Nightmare, the family become the proud owners of a Monkey's Paw, bought from a shifty vendor in a strange market. The vendor promises that the paw will grant four wishes. But, in typical monkey's paw fashion, each wish has two sides to it, urging the family to be careful what they wish for.

In Bart's Nightmare he becomes an omnipotent god with the ability to read minds and transform anyone into anything he wishes. Although this seems like a nightmare for anyone except Bart, it strikes a nerve with him when he finally becomes closer with Homer and shares a hug with him. This is where the true terror lies for Bart.

In Homer's Nightmare he is mistaken for a corpse by Mr. Burns who is searching for a human brain to place inside a robotic perfect worker he is creating. However, not all goes to plan when Burns realises that robot Homer is just as lazy as human Homer.
