10 Best TV Antiheroes Of All Time
1. Tony Soprano - The Sopranos
Despite the stiff competition, no antihero is even close to surpassing Tony Soprano. As noted in the introduction, The Sopranos started the trend of morally grey antiheroes being front-and-centre on TV, and right out the gate Tony perfected the role dozens would copy and remix in the years to come.
A mob boss with a therapist, Tony was likable right away, because he was vulnerable despite the violence and crimes he committed in his work.
As the show went on, he killed numerous enemies, ordered the deaths of former friends, beat people and committed numerous other crimes in-between. But thanks to James Gandolfini's revelatory performance and the transcendent writing, he was never one to dislike.
No matter what he did and who he did it to, Tony Soprano was an antihero who was as morally lacking as they come, but so strangely endearing and alluring that the idea of hating him or simply dismissing him as a "villain" was nothing short of an impossibility.
