Heroes don't get more "anti" than Buffy the Vampire Slayer's resident big bad Spike, who by his very nature as a soulless vampire was about as unheroic and deplorable as they come.

But Spike was a lot more than met the eye, and whilst for the first two-or-so seasons of his tenure on the show he has little more than a straight-up villain, once he got stuck in town with no way of acting on his killer impulses, he showed he was capable of great things when the situation called for it.

Eventually, Spike fell in love with Buffy, helped the gang save the world, and fought to reclaim his soul so he could be a man rather than a monster.

Though he killed, tortured, threatened, manipulated and lied his way through his undead life, his charm, wit, and unrivalled character arc made him impossible to hate, and stole the show every second he got on screen.
