Westeros was a dark, dangerous place, and it could bring out the absolute worst in people. This was evident in the character of Theon Greyjoy, who suffered massively because of his circumstances, but after a brutal awakening became a loyal friend and a strong warrior.

When starting this series, it's impossible to imagine a world where you can get behind Theon. Not only does he do awful things, but he's abrasively obnoxious, rude and downright unlikeable. This was magnified in season two when he took control of Winterfell, and began a reign of terror.

However, his story changed dramatically from there, as you began to learn about his conflictions from being a Greyjoy raised by Starks. His family name (The Greyjoys) were known for their brutality and lack of authority, but his adoptive family (The Starks) were a loyal and strong house who acted with honour.

Eventually, he came to learn who he truly was, and after an unbelievably harsh period of torture from the evil Ramsay Snow/Bolton, he took control over his life, and sought to right the wrongs he had done.

His story even ended quite well, as he bravely sacrificed himself to protect Bran. A good ending is not a luxury that many GOT characters were lucky enough to receive.
