10 Best TV Redemption Arcs Of All Time
2. Steve Harrington - Stranger Things
The douchebag boyfriend is such a cliched character, which is why it felt so at home in the nostalgic first season of Stranger Things.
Steve Harrington felt, at first, like your typical run of the mill, popular kid antagonist, whose vanity and insecurity led to the harassment of the misunderstood lead. But from the get-go, fans could tell that there was potential in Nancy's douche boyfriend.
In typical Stranger Things fashion, rather than keeping entirely to clichés, it adapted the boyfriend trope and took the role in a new direction, by allowing Steve to become a part of the major cast, hanging out with Dustin and becoming a protective figure for the leading boys.
His transition was unexpected, but viewers ate it up, as Steve seemed to genuinely regret his actions, and watching through season one again made you look at his arrogance in a different light.
Additionally, his attitude towards Nancy leaving him for Johnathan and his platonic relationship with Robin proved how non-toxic he had become and delivered a valuable lesson in letting go of your ego and becoming a good friend.
Viewers can't wait to see where he goes next, and it's safe to say wherever it is, his hair will be looking fly.
