10 Best TV Shows Of Fall 2014

8. The Flash (The CW, Tuesdays 8/7c)

Where Gotham and Arrow have the gritty pathos, The Flash is just a lot of fun. Yeah, there's the prerequisite sob story about Barry Allen's mother being murdered by a mysterious entity before his very eyes, but the show moves on very quickly to the parts that we're most looking forward to seeing. This is a superhero who relishes his new abilities, rather than constantly brooding over them like some other comic book characters we could mention. The Flash has a charismatic young lead in Grant Gustin, who brings a sense of enthusiasm to his role as a hero who hasn't yet become world-weary and jaded. We're confident that the CW will give the fledgling show a chance to grow into itself, as they usually give their programs more opportunities to develop than other more cancel-happy networks. Also, the fact that they're clearly attempting to build an entire superhero block of television, with The Flash and Arrow existing in the same universe, certainly helps matters. And with Arrow doing as well as it has been over the past three years, it would take a lot for this fun little show to fail.
