10 Best TV Shows Of Fall 2014

4. Selfie (ABC, Tuesdays 8/7c)

Selfie has a cringeworthy name that already feels dated, and out of all the shows that have come out this fall, it seems to be the one to garner the most amount of ill will from audiences. Will it get cancelled in its first season, sending Karen Gillan back to Scotland licking her wounds, taking solace in the fact that at least Guardians of the Galaxy was a big hit? We're not going to lie, it's a distinct possibility. It's the story of a shallow young woman who mistakes social media popularity with actually having a real life with real friends, and her co-worker's attempt to turn the self-obsessed Facebook addict into a functioning human being. But Selfie seems like one of those comedy shows that has a legitimately terrible pilot, and it only becomes good once you learn to love its characters, warts and all. There's a decent amount of chemistry between Gillan and her Professor Higgins-like co-star John Cho, and there really is a lot to like about the show beneath the surface. Ironically, the show all about marketing and the evils of social media feels like it needs a serious re-branding. But if Selfie survives long enough to settle into itself and work out all the kinks, we think it will be totally worth it.
