10 Best TV Shows Of 2017 (So Far)

Fargo Season 3 Ewan McGregor Mary Elizabeth Winstead

It's a testament to the quality of Noah Hawley's Minnesota murder series that, even in a year weaker than the first two, it's still one of the best shows on TV.

The third run of the Coens-inspired anthology takes things forward to 2010, and brings in perhaps its best cast yet: Ewan McGregor, Ewan McGregor again, Carrie Coon, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and David Thewlis.

The sibling rivalry between the two Ewans (Emmet and Ray Stussy) provides an immediate hook, and Thewlis makes for a sinister villain, but it's the performances from Coon and Winstead - as cop Gloria Bugle and parolee Nikki Swango respectively - that are at the core of this year, providing the show with so much of its heart and humour.

The show once again does a great job of blending its quaint town setting, and the evocative atmosphere it creates with it, alongside over-the-top scenes of violence and mayhem, and then working in Hawley's off-kilter humour in there too.

Is the mix as strong as Seasons 1 & 2? Not quite. Is it still great and, if this indeed the final year, a fine note to end on? You betcha!
