10 Big Differences Between New And Classic Doctor Who

1. The Greatest Showrunner In The Galaxy

The most important single difference between old and new in the land of Who lies with the man at the controls. No, not the Doctor in the TARDIS, but the series showrunner, a creator-in-chief role imported wholesale from our transatlantic cousins. In the Classic set up, the producer facilitated the script editor and their team. Not anymore. These days you'd be hard pushed to name who the script editor on the show even is. The head writer is an executive producer and scribe-wrangler all in one. Both NuWho commanders so far - that's Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat - have put their distinctive mark on the legacy. Davies brought in rollicking fun and comic book concepts while Moffat steeped the format in elaborate storylines and skull-aching revelations. "Who"ever is lucky enough to inherit the mantle next has the weight and intense scrutiny of the fanbase on their shoulders, as well as viewers around the world. It's a level of responsbility the old producers could only dream of. And while the showrunners can easily become hate figures, they remain the prime factor for the Gallifreyan's legions of admirers, a single individual standing between the door of the police box and high quality adventuring. Do you agree with this list? Are there any big differences between old and new that should've been included? Join the conversation in the comments section below!
