3. The Entire Show Is Phoebe's Drug-Fuelled Dream
While most fan theories are easily scoffed at, there is one which has taken on a life of its own over the years - the widely-circulated theory that the show was actually the meth-generated fantasy of Phoebe, who is actually a homeless drug addict living near Central Perk.
The theory elaborates that the real Phoebe projected her desires onto the Phoebe seen in the show, and her wacky hijinks throughout are rationally explained by the fact they're the drug-addled delusions of an addict.
The theory picked up enough traction with fans that ET Online eventually put it before Marta Kauffman herself, who confirmed it was absolutely not the case:
"That's the saddest thing I've ever heard!...No, I never heard that - that's a terrible theory. That's insane!...I just think that someone needs a life. Someone needs a life, that's all I'm saying."
That won't stop fans buying into it and viewing the show through that creative lens, but it categorically isn't canon.
