9. Marc Webb Won't Be Directing The Amazing Spider-Man 4

Marc Webb Spider Man Marc Webb succeeded in reinvigorating interest in Spider-Man, after Sam Raimi torched his own franchise with Spider-Man 3. The Amazing Spider-Man may not have been unanimously praised, but it DID give way for what Sony hopes to be an entire cinematic universe centered around the friendly neighborhood web slinger. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits theaters in May, and Webb has already signed on for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. This week, however, we learned that he would NOT be in the director's chair for the already announced fourth installment, acting as consultant and producer instead.
I'd like to be involved as a consultant, and I've already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I've had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it'll be the time to find something else.
It's understandable that Webb would want to take a step back after directing three massive tentpole films centered around a beloved comic book character. He has undoubtedly been instrumental in guiding the future of the franchise, so him staying on as a consultant would definitely be a good thing. Plus, it might be nice to get a pair of fresh eyes to helm the fourth installment, which by then will be accompanied by Venom and Sinister Six spinoffs.
