10 Biggest TV Cliffhangers That Will Never Be Resolved

The final scene of The Sopranos can and has been debated to death since it aired. It can’t be called an unresolved cliffhanger though, since it was always intended to be the scene that ended the show. No matter how angry it made people.

Another famous unanswered question relates to what happened to Valary, the invincible Russian from the Pine Barrens episode. Paulie and Chris are sent to collect money from Valary only to get into a fight that seems to kill him. They drive out to a remote forest to bury him, only he’s not quite dead. After another fight Valary runs away, taking a bullet in the head in the process, but he just keeps running.

Chris and Paulie then get lost in the woods with the Russian still loose, and they learn he’s an ex-special forces soldier. The expected final showdown never happens though and they finally get rescued at the end.

Fans expected this dangling thread to be picked up again, and maybe lead Tony into conflict with the Russian Mob, but Valary’s disappearance was left a mystery. Evidence points to him escaping (Paulie’s missing car), but a definite answer has never been provided, and the show’s writers are known to get touchy when people complain about it.
