10 Biggest TV Show Blunders Ever

Downton Abbey, the popular Cheers spin-off, is known for its legions of adoring fans around the world. However, just like Game of Thrones, Doctor Who, Star Wars, and almost any franchise that is in any way successful, its biggest fans seem to really, really hate it.

Just look at the huge community of people who enjoy nothing more than writing letters to the TV Guide about historical inaccuracies and period anachronisms in Downton (and yes, we did say "writing letters" - Downton fans tend to skew a little older than regular readers of this site). Whether it's spotting a television aerial in the 1920s, or hearing a 1918 song being played in 1914, these nits just love to pick!

One popular nitpick that has plagued the show is its use of modern expressions in old-fashioned dialogue. Apparently people were not saying "get shafted" or "get knotted" 100 years ago, and the phrase "as if!" only really came into fashion after Clueless hit cinemas.

Julian Fellowes, the show's creator, has hit back at the pointlessness and overall lameness of pointing out TV blunders, saying:

"The real problem is with people who are insecure socially. They think to show how smart they are by picking holes in the programme to promote their own poshness and to show that their knowledge is greater than your knowledge."

We couldn't agree with you more, Fellowes -- and we're publishing this list!
