We've seen lots of really impressive medical devices in Star Trek, including tricorders, laser scalpels, dermal regenerators, biobeds, and more, but there's one device that just doesn't fit in.

In the Lower Decks episode Mining The Mind's Mines, a Cerritos crewmember had an alien parasite attached to his foot, and Doctor T'Ana used an actual chainsaw to perform an amputation on the limb.

T'Ana made it clear that the patient was sedated, and that a new limb would be grown in the lab to replace his foot, but there must have been a more delicate way to perform the procedure.

This device was shown mostly for shock humour, but chainsaws have actually been tied to medicine forever. In fact, you may be horrified to learn that one of the first recorded chainsaws was actually invented to assist with childbirth before modern c-section surgeries were invented. Still, one would hope the 24th century would be a bit more advanced.
