10 Brilliant Short-Running TV Shows That Proved Less Is More

2. Black Mirror

This Channel 4 series might be one of the most talked about in the past few years, and is certainly unlike anything we've seen lately. Charlie Brooker, the show's creator said that "each episode has a different cast, a different setting, even a different reality. But they're all about the way we live now €“ and the way we might be living in 10 minutes' time if we're clumsy". Basically, Black Mirror, as a reference to out mobile phones, is about the Twitter era. This is the only link between the episodes of this show. Other than that, every episode can stand alone as almost a full-length movie, and each with its own agenda and message. And it does have a powerful agenda €“ so much so that it might leave you with a dropped jaw for several minutes after it's ended. The show was compared to The Twilight Zone, and while some episodes take place in an imaginary world, some are just imaginary scenarios that could happen right here. Since it's only had 6 episodes so far, it would take too long to describe all of them in detail, so instead here are a few highlights. A futuristic world where everyone rides a bicycle in order to supply the world's power and the only way to stop is to win a reality show. The British princess is abducted, and the ransom must be the PM having sex with a pig on live TV. A man dies but his consciousness can be brought back to life through sophisticated computer software. Think about all of that next time you tweet out something.
