10 Brilliant Short-Running TV Shows That Proved Less Is More

3. Orange Is The New Black

From the police station to prison. Orange Is The New Black might be the longest series on this list, with a whopping 13-episode span, but is still considered short by American standards. Furthermore, due to it being released on Netflix, you can catch it all in a one, long, 13-hour sitting, and then go about with your life, a little happier for having watched it. It€™s that good. There€™s something to be said about a show that€™s being led by a woman €“ there's just not enough of those around. Yet in this instance, most of the characters are women, which makes the show that much better. We can carry an hour-long comedic drama with ease and triumph, just watch us. Of course, being set in a women€™s prison doesn€™t give the script too much leeway. The series revolves around Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a bisexual woman engaged to a man and living in New York City, who is sentenced to 15 months in prison for transporting a suitcase full of drug money to her former drug smuggler girlfriend. During her stay in prison, we learn more about her current upper middle class life, and the lives her cellmates had before their sentences, including her ex, Alex Vause (Laura Prepon). A whole article can be written about the tremendous work those actresses are doing with those rolls, each one is better than the next. I will mention Preron in particular €“ she's so wonderful it actually took me an episode to remember she was that redhead from That 70€™s Show. As it said on TVGuide: "Netflix finally achieves its eureka moment with a terrifically entertaining piece of original programming€.
