10 British Horror TV Shows You've Probably Never Seen
3. Inside No.9 - Halloween Special (2018)
Though every episode of this darkly comic series is at least tinged with the macabre, the Halloween special was less comedic and more soberly terrifying than Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith's usual output.
Drawing on the same and perhaps under explored conceit of Ghostwatch, Inside No.9's 2018 Halloween special was a live broadcast and best enjoyed recreating that viewing experience; watch it all in one unbroken go.
Ostensibly an episode of the show about Arthur, played by Pemberton, who finds a mobile home and takes it home, only for strange occurrences to follow. However, before long the live feed is jumping between these segments of the 'show' and backstage, where the actors are hanging about and discussing the show. Of course, things slowly take sinister turns.
A number of episodes of Inside No.9 could have featured on this list (Season 1 episode 'The Harrowing,' for instance), but this Halloween special stands as one of the series' pure horror highlights. It is more effective than Ghostwatch in exploiting the live elements, as well as some of the CCTV style camera work from the likes of Paranormal Activity. The result is a focused, experimental, and chilling piece of TV drama.
