10 Brutal TV Moments You Won't Believe Were Allowed To Air

1. Spooks - The Death Of Helen Flynn

The Sopranos
BBC

You'll never look at deep fat fryers the same way again.

BBC's acclaimed MI5 drama handed actress Lisa Faulkner an unforgettably awful exit from the series. Her character, new recruit Helen Flynn, is initially presented as a prominent figure on the show, making her early exit all the more jaw-dropping. Poor Helen endures unimaginable pain having first her hand and then her head pushed head-on into the fryer.

The second dip burns her face right off. It's even more uncomfortable and disfiguring than it sounds. It's only after her attackers are done turning her into the human equivalent of a deep-fried Mars bar that they put her out of her misery.

Understandably miffed, the Spooks team took murderous revenge for their fallen comrade.

The episode, titled Looking After Our Own, received over 250 complaints at the time of airing. That proves that either more than 250 viewers had a little too much time on their hands or that the scene did its job in getting under everyone's skin.

A dark show in general, Spooks never went this far on the brutality front again.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
