10 Brutal TV Moments You Won't Believe Were Allowed To Air

2. This Is England '86 - Trev's Assault

The Sopranos
Channel 4

The TV follow-up to Shane Meadows' infamous 2006 feature left viewers up in arms with this one. During episode 3, evil dad Mick (played with a suitable menace by Johnny Harris) brutally attacks and rapes his daughter Lol's friend Trev.

Meadows leaves nothing to the imagination, depicting this horrendous crime in all of its sickening detail. We wince and want to look away as Trev hopelessly struggles against Mick's attack.

Predictably controversial, Trev's ordeal prompted debates among viewers regarding the scene's artistic merit vs its shock value. Many commended it for not shying away from the real terror of such a brutal crime. In the wake of his sadistic abuse, Mick coldly throws Trev out of the house, adding some insult to the extensive injury.

Mick quickly proved to be among the most evil characters ever put on British TV history. A psychotic, psychologically abusive deadbeat, his (and the series') cruelty reached a new peak with this one.

While Mick ultimately suffered a grisly comeuppance in the very next episode, his toxic impact on those around him remained through every following season.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
