10 Brutal TV Moments You Won't Believe Were Allowed To Air

5. The Shield - Aceveda's Very Bad Day

The Sopranos
FX

Always clear your corners.

David Aceveda starts off as a fairly well-intentioned police captain in LA. After his season 3 promotion to the City Council, he becomes less involved at the Barn but still provides support when he can.

He's probably wishing he'd stopped entirely after this one. Entering a house to apprehend a member of the Byz Lats gang, Aceveda's jumped from behind. The two take his gun and begin to torment him with one of them, Juan, wanting to force Aceveda to perform oral sex on him.

It appears Aceveda might be saved when two cops come to investigate the house. Sadly, the two appear to be the laziest in all of California and leave without ever entering the home. It's painful watching Aceveda desperately try to scream for help while his mouth's covered. What follows is a scene so grim and traumatising that it was heavily censored in most countries it aired in.

Not only is Aceveda sexually assaulted but the guys take a photo of it too, a plot point that would haunt the character for the rest of the series. Watching the broken and humiliated Aceveda plea for his life afterwards remains one of the series' most disquieting moments.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
