6. Hannibal - Mason Verger's Face Lift
As if his treatment of others wasn't horrendous enough, Mason Verger goes and cuts his own damn face off. While the Hannibal movie barely showed the self-mutilation mayhem, the series revels in the disgusting details.
The tears martini enthusiast makes the dreadful mistake of sending his long-suffering sister to Dr Hannibal Lecter. So heinous that even Hannibal considers him a bit much, the 2 engage in a predictably sadistic feud. Heavily drugged, the depraved Verger takes Lecter up on his advice and cuts off his own face, feeding portions to Will Graham's dogs before munching on his own nose.
When Hannibal snaps his neck, it almost seems like a mercy. That is until he readjusts it to leave Verger paralysed instead of dead. While Verger undoubtedly had a miserable fate like this coming, it's all so grim and off-putting we're again left stunned at what NBC permitted on their channel.
Worse still, Verger remained a disgusting feature in the next season where the consequences of his injuries are on full display. One really has to worry about the minds that come up with this stuff.
