10 Buffy & Angel Easter Eggs You Might Have Missed
7. Dead Air On The Line
Episode: The Freshman (Buffy, Season 4) / City of (Angel, Season 1) Season four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer marked a major change in the series: Buffy had graduated high school. Lover Angel had left, gone to Los Angeles and his own show. Cordelia Chase was off to Angel as well. Suddenly the only love life Buffy had ever known was over, and her supposed soul mate was on another show. Cross-overs were clearly going to take place, but how Mutant Enemy did them was rather interesting. There weren't a lot of big back and forths between the two shows, as the company wanted Angel to become established on its own. Instead, Oz of all people, along with Spike, wound up being the first big cross-over, in the third episode of Angel's first season. Buffy turned up once in the first season in the sappy but still entertaining "I Will Remember You" and again later in the year in "Sanctuary" - and that was it for Buffy making the jump to her former lover's spin-off. Except for an uncredited "appearance" that was voice only and involved a dead-air call Angel makes to Buffy at the end of the very first Angel episode, "City of." It's a little nod to fans of Buffy that Angel still cares for her, but totally lost on those who never watched Buffy and just jumped on board for Angel (yes, those exist). Which gives it easter egg status if just barely.
