10 Buffy Moments That Hit You Hard
1. Buffy Finds Her Mother Dead
The death of a parent is never easy. Having a front row seat for that loss - or finding the body shortly after - is even worse. There is nothing that can prepare you for the finality of it. There's nothing that can be done; no amount of bargaining, pleading, just nothing you can do to change the inevitable finality of death.
The standout episode of the fifth season and perhaps the series, The Body tackles this very subject in such a realistic fashion (no soundtrack or music cues, and minimal involvement from any of the more supernatural elements of the show) that it feels like an entirely different series. When towards the end a vampire finally does rear its ugly head, it seems almost like a return to reality from the surreal feeling brought about by actual, realistic events taking place on the show.
The Body was the pinnacle of the series, and the had the hardest hitting moments in seven seasons of Buffy on television.
