10 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes That Are Almost Perfect

4. Passion (Season 2, Episode 17)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Mutant Enemy

‘Passion’ is an important episode in the show’s history because it’s the first episode to feature a tragic death. Determined to stop her from returning his soul, Angelus hunts down Jenny and snaps her neck.

But despite how great the second half of the episode is, Giles and Jenny’s final conversation doesn’t quite land. It’s meant to be a romantic scene in which Jenny reveals her true feelings for Giles, but the moment she declares her love just feels off.

In a scene like this, sometimes less is more. It would have been better if Jenny had teetered on the edge of vocalising her feelings. This would have made the conversation less cheesy and her death more tragic, as Giles would have never known Jenny’s true feelings about him.

It’s still a great episode, but this romantic exchange definitely needed a few more revisions. With a couple of tweaks here and there, Giles and Jenny’s final conversation would have been brilliant.
