10 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes That Are Almost Perfect

5. Lover’s Walk (Season 3, Episode 8)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Mutant Enemy

Heartbroken by Drusilla’s betrayal, Spike returns to Sunnydale in ‘Lover’s Walk’ and tries to fix his relationship by kidnapping Willow and forcing her to perform a love spell. Xander also gets roped into the proceedings, and Spike imprisons the two of them in the abandoned factory.

Oz and Cordelia – who are in relationships with Willow and Xander respectively – start searching around Sunnydale, and Oz suddenly reveals that he can smell Willow nearby.

This ability is an offshoot of Oz’s werewolf condition, but it’s never established beforehand, so it feels like a massive plot convenience, allowing Oz and Cordelia to find their friends quickly. And strangely enough, Oz’s overpowered nose doesn’t really come up again. (The only exception is when he smells Willow’s scent on Tara’s clothing in Season 4.)

It's a small issue, but it still snaps you out of the episode. If the writers had just mentioned Oz’s ability in an earlier episode, this problem would have been avoided.
