10 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Episodes That Are Almost Perfect
2. Angel (Season 1, Episode 7)
With the possible exception of ‘Prophecy Girl’, ‘Angel’ is the best episode from Season 1. The story focuses on Angel’s true identity and Darla’s attempts to kill Buffy and her mother.
Unfortunately, the final fight is ruined by one thing: guns. Rather than having a brutal fistfight, Darla arrives on the scene with a pair of pistols and starts shooting away at the Slayer. This continues for about a minute or so, and Buffy is forced to duck and cover as bullets fly across the room.
The problem with this scene is that it feels completely out of place. Guns are a rarity in the Buffyverse, and this is the only moment in the show where a vampire tries to kill their target with firearms, so it’s totally unnatural for Darla to do something like this.
It’s a shame because this is Darla’s final scene (not including flashbacks), and she deserved a much better send-off than the one she got. Whoever came up with the idea to give Darla a set of pistols made a very poor decision.
