8. Becoming An Evil Spirit That Forces People To Commit Murder (Season 2, Episode 19)
‘I Only Have Eyes For You’ is a strange episode. Couples inside the school start acting out the same scenario involving a man with a gun trying to murder his girlfriend. It’s an odd premise and there’s plenty of mystery.
As it turns out, the school is being haunted by two people who were at Sunnydale High in the 1950s. The spirits used to be a teacher and a student who struck up a romantic relationship together before the latter killed the former when she attempted to break up with him.
The spirit of the student – James Stanley – returns in order to seek forgiveness for what he’s done by possessing others to relive his last moments with the teacher – Grace Newman. What’s more, the spirits of James and Grace are stuck in a loop, which is why the scenario keeps being repeated throughout the episode.
Yet the worst thing about James and Grace’s spiritual life isn’t that they’re not allowed to die peacefully, it’s the fact they’re forcing others to attempt murder against their will.
