10 Categoric Reasons Why The Simpsons Is Better Than Family Guy

9. Storytelling

The Simpsons, especially in the early years, put story above all else - and that was exactly the right move. When Family Guy rose in popularity - after the series had debuted, been cancelled, and brought back - its elder counterpart began a shift in tone that saw it suffer during its teen years as it tried to mimic the more random, far-fetched antics of the Griffin family. However, The Simpsons wisely returned to a story-first approach in recent years, bringing back tales with moral undertones and valuable lessons, and making the show much more watchable than it was in its teen seasons. Family Guy had a similar start, but after the relatively quick cancellation, it seemed to lose a lot of what made the first seasons great - a fantastic balance of solid plotlines mixed with zany humour. The Simpsons have managed to produce far more compelling storylines over the years (longevity helps this), and that gives them the edge in the debate. Simply put, Family Guy just doesn't have the same quality in its stories, and can really only hold up (in that area) to the worst seasons of the Groening show.
