10 Characters From Famous TV Shows Who Were Swept Under The Carpet

6. Grandma Tanner - Full House

One of the first characters to appear on Full House was Grandma Tanner, played by Alice Hirson. In the pilot, Grandma had been living with the family following the death of her daughter-in-law and was preparing to move out as the other characters moved in. There was a strong implication that Grandma Tanner would be a recurring character on the show. After all, she wasn't moving out of San Francisco, meaning she would be close by if they needed her help. But Hirson only made one additional appearance as Grandma Tanner when she sees how horribly the three men are doing at maintaining the house and threatens to move back in if they don't straighten out their act. With the success of the three men on the show, Grandma Tanner would have been a very redundant character. But, to make things even more complicated, a new Grandma Tanner showed up during season three. This Grandma Tanner was played by Doris Roberts and it was implied that she had lived out of the area for some time and was visiting for the first time in years. Of course, the real reason behind this is the writers of Full House had absolutely no sense of continuity (just ask Jesse Cochran... uh, Katsopolis), so they probably simply forgot they not only had Grandma Tanner as a character but had also intended her to be recurring.
