10. The Ugly Duckling/The Swan
A perhaps somewhat puzzling selection for the first choice but one I feel could really be pulled off - coming from Hans Christen Andersen's original tale, the story of the duckling involves said duckling believing it to be ugly and transforming into a swan. However, we could see a darker and more human interpretation of the tale - particular if we make the duckling/swan a human person afflicted with low self-esteem. Imagine it - a girl believes that she's ugly due to one physical aspect of hers, Rumple comes along and makes her believe that she's conventionally beautiful, boosting her confidence. When she discovers she isn't, she becomes depressed and suicidal, forcing the Blue Fairy to intervene and teach her to embrace her inner beauty without facades. Admittedly, it's a very 'after school special' sort of idea, but with the vast majority of characters in Storybrooke a decent-looking bunch, it'd be hard not to compare yourself unfavourably. We could see an actress like Rebel Wilson pulling this role off with aplomb - not solely because she's a fantastic plus-sized actress and has played characters in the past with whom their size has been a key point, but because she has a radiant confidence in herself that could be utilised to bring about both a great change and a positive story for a generation obsessed with sizeist attitudes and beliefs in realising that shes been a swan all this time.
